President Xi Jinping in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress summarized comprehensively the work and historic change in the past five years, including China’s great achievements in diplomacy. The salient characteristics of these achievements are: “We have made all-round efforts in the pursuit of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, thus advancing China’s diplomatic agenda in a comprehensive, multilevel, multifaceted way and creating a favorable external environment for China’s development. ”“ We have seen a further rise in China’s international influence, ability to inspire, and power to shape; and China has made great new contributions to global peace and development.”

In the process of China promoting the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, East Asia is a core region where China must manage and plan with effort. The Belt and Road Initiative has a key influence on shaping China’s leading role in East Asia. On one hand, the Belt and Road Initiative can contribute rich guidance for China to participate in the construction of regional integration from five aspects: realizing guidance of the concept, pushing forward economic cooperation, developing security cooperation, providing systematic construction and incubating and deepening regional identification. On the other hand, we should pay attention to the constraint and challenge that China, despite its leadership in the process, faces in this process.
