Q10. What’s the defined standard of originality? For instance, does the background music in a video have to be original? Is it necessary that materials quoted should be clearly identified with its source at the time of submission?
A10: The very word “originality” means the prototype underpinning the story exists and is not a complete fiction, but competitors are able to work on the creation based on the prototype. The background music does not necessarily have to be original, but at the time of submission, materials quoted should be clearly identified with their sources, and the participant shall be responsible for any liability deriving from the work.
Q11. Who is eligible to take part in the competition?
A11: A wide range of people have the opportunity to compete in the competition, and the contest is open to college students at home and abroad, international students studying in China, workers in enterprises, institutions, media, and people from all walks of life, as well as international friends.
Q12. Who is the contest intended to reach?
A12: This contest is intended for the international community, and is not self-talk. Fully taking into account our audience, we hope a variety of international elements will be showed by way of this contest.
Q13. Are Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan students eligible to participate in the contest? Which group will we be placed in?
A13: Students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan are especially welcomed and will participate as a representative of the college group.
Q14. I am a foreign student studying in China. Am I eligible for this competition?
A14: It is deeply encouraged for overseas Chinese students and international students, or foreign students studying in China, to actively apply and take part in the contest.
Q15. My parents also show deep interest in the contest. Are they eligible for it?
A15: Of course. Their participation is welcomed. We established the social group, and we warmly welcome people from all circles to share their captivating stories with us.
Q16. You just mentioned that university students both at home and abroad are welcome to participate, and I wonder whether or not there is any special requirement for them?
A16: As our slogan “stories of China with an international expression” shows, we particularly welcome overseas students or friends to take part in the contest. Meanwhile, we are quite willing to accept works in English to ensure participants’ performance is not influenced by language barriers.
Q17. Are there any specific requirements for submission of entries? Is it fine to submit micro-films, paintings, or musical pieces?
A17: Applicants should submit a story text plus a creative representation as an attachment. Original texts should be submitted in WORD format (3,000-5,000 words) as stipulated, including selection of the contest theme, title of the story, plot description, main idea, prototype source, and representation (see annex of materials to download “Script format of the International Contest for Creative Communication of China Story”). However, representation forms of original ideas are limitless, including audio and video, web design, graphic design, e-magazine, fine art, product design, space design, and VR, as long as it fits within the length of three minutes. This is one of the characteristics of the contest, as its sole requirement is that entries are unpublished original story texts and creative representations in line with the contest theme, thus allowing for enough space for innovation. For more information about the specific format requirements for the annex, please see the Guideline.
