Where Is the DPRK-US Dialogue Going in 2020? — Review and Forecast of the Denuclearization Process on the Korean Peninsula

The situation on the Korean Peninsula affects the whole Northeast Asia. After the DPRK and the US reached a consensus on the issue of “denuclearization of the peninsula” in 2018, the relationship between the two countries has eased significantly. However, no breakthrough has been made on the improvement of the DPRK-US relations or the issue of the peninsula’s denuclearization to this day. This paper analyzes the status quo of DPRK-US relations, expounds the US’s strategy towards the DPRK, the DPRK’s position in the DPRK-US Dialogue and China’s attitude towards the issue of the Korean Peninsula, analyzes the process of denuclearization on the peninsula, and offers a forecast of the DPRK-US relations.

The Building of Public Health Cognitive Community and Public Opinions on COVID-19

The public health cognitive community with an “authoritative network built on core professional knowledge” in response to global epidemics can play an important role as a power agent, builder of public opinion and guide to actions. In understanding COVID-19, it plays the important role of tracing the origin and clarifying its emergence. In confronting massive false information and mistaken comments on COVID-19 released by some countries and their attempts to politicize the virus and stigmatize China, it is necessary for China to lead the efforts to build a public health cognitive community and reach consensus throughout the world with the wisdom of science, so as to help unite world public opinion and create an environment on global cooperation in response to the COVID-19.

Some Thoughts on How to Tell Stories of China’s Anti-COVID-19 Efforts

The outbreak of COVID-19 has made the international opinion on China more complex and diverse. There are both positive public opinions praising China's anti-epidemic efforts and calling for strengthening global cooperation to fight COVID-19, and yet also negative ones as some people take the opportunity to discredit and attack and incite “confrontation” with China. In face of the complex international public opinion environment, relevant departments of the Central Government and governments at all levels in China have held press conferences intensively and foreign affairs departments, domestic media and the general public of China have made great efforts by actively exploring telling true stories about China’s epidemic control. At present, with the epidemic raging around the world, China still bears the pressure of resurgence of the disease although the domestic situation has been brought under control in the country, how to tell the stories of China’s anti-epidemic efforts while fighting against the epidemic is worth our further thinking.

Spokesmen’ s Discourse Strategy in News Release under Public Health Emergency — The Case Study of Chaoyang District of Beijing Being Listed as a High-risk Area of COVID-19

As COVID-19 prevention and control has become part of the normal life, Chaoyang District of Beijing attracted public attention by being listed as the only high-risk epidemic area in China, as a result of inbound cases affecting families. In a situation where both “normal” and “emergency” coexist, the spokesmen’s news release has met many challenges. Under the framework of the theory of building public relations through dialogue, the paper has selected news conference videos, transcripts and other big data of public opinion during the period from April 20th to 30th, 2020 when Chaoyang District of Beijing was listed a high- risk area of COVID-19 as subjects of study, and analyzes the discourse strategies of the spokesmen in crisis news release concerning COVID-19. It also provides suggestions on how to build effective dialogue between the government and the public with news release as a bridge.
