Xu Jingqi • 106 •

The people-to-people diplomacy at the beginning of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) marked a key period in opening up China’s diplomatic development. Chu Tunan was one of the practitioners of the “people- to-people diplomacy”. Under his leadership, the Chinese People’s Association for Cultural Exchanges with Foreign Countries organized a wide range of cultural communication activities, including both “going out” and “inviting in”. All these made positive and beneficial contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, and greatly promoted the development of public diplomacy of China.
