Firmly Safeguard Peace and Stability in East Asia

Peace in East Asia is the biggest goal pursued by almost all people in the region. Changes in the international strength structure and balance of power in the region have occurred against the backdrops of the upgrading of the US-Japan Alliance, the continued attention on the Japanese government’s attitude towards history and the security bill recently approved by the Japanese parliament. In addition, the United States has launched a “return to Asia” strategy and the South China Sea dispute is drawing much attention. Given this situation, cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea plays a particularly important role in safeguarding peace and stability in East Asia.
On Major Power Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics: Elements, Principles and Diplomatic Means

After the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the leadership, with CPC General Secretary and State President Xi Jinping at the core, began to initiate a series of important diplomatic activities in the world, reflecting the distinguished characteristics of China’s major power diplomacy. China’s new concept includes elements of the Chinese Dream, peaceful development, a cooperation network of international partners, new-type international relations, Chinese traditional culture, the principles of developing oneself while helping others, peaceful coexistence, equal treatment, combination of justice and benefit, and win-win cooperation, as well as the diplomatic means adopted according to these principles.
“Collaborative Modernization” Is the Essence of the “Belt and Road Initiative”

Based on the speeches of Chinese President Xi Jinping and the official documents of the Chinese government, this article examines the meaning, nature, aims, principles, contents and measures comprising the “Belt and Road Initiative” with two keywords: “collaboration” and “modernization”. Then, based on two different scales -- nation state/international regime and economic growth/all- round development -- it analyzes various modernization theories and their features to develop the concept of “collaborative modernization” and its major features. The conclusion is that the essence of the “Belt and Road Initiative” is indeed “collaborative modernization.”
